The home side headed into the game, third on the Serie A table after dropping vital points in the last few weeks.
They needed a win against the league leader Napoli to close the gap on the table. However, they failed to get the victory and lost 3-2 at home to Antonio Conte’s side.
As it happened
Atalanta star Ademola Lookman started in attack alongside Retegui as they looked to return to winning ways.
Napoli, on the other hand, started Romelu Lukaku in attack as they looked to extend their winning streak.
The first half got fans off their seats with three goals scored by both teams. Atalanta took the lead through Retegui early in the game, but two quick goals from Matteo Politano and Scott McTominay gave Napoli the advantage.
Atalanta responded immediately in the second half, with Super Eagles star Lookman scoring the equaliser.
However, Napoli shocked the home side in the 78th minute with the winning goal, which was scored by Lukaku.
The visitors held on until the final whistle despite the pressure from Atalanta to get the equaliser, with the win taking Napoli six points clear on the table.
