Liverpool vs PSV Eindhoven Preview

Liverpool have suffered back-to-back 3-0 defeats, first against Manchester City before the break, and at home against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. It is the first time since 1965 that the Reds have experienced consecutive defeats in the league by a margin of three or more goals.

Now in the bottom half of the Premier League table, Arne Slot will hope his side can continue their fine form in the UCL, where they have won three and lost one of four matches.

They secured a 1-0 home victory over Real Madrid in their last UCL game at home, and they now have an opportunity to stretch their winning run at home in the group/league phase of this competition to 14 matches.

However, standing in their way is PSV, who know that they are still not favourites in this encounter despite Liverpool’s poor form compared to theirs.

The Dutch side are unbeaten in 11 matches across all competitions (W8, D3), with seven of those victories coming in the last matches, most recently a 1-0 away win against NAC Breda in the league.

However, PSV have not been flying in the UCL, with one win in four matches, though they have not lost on the road, drawing both of their away matches.

The Dutch team have been solid on the road for a while, unbeaten in their last 15 away games (W12, D3). Their confidence will be further boosted by the 3-2 win over Liverpool when both sides met in the league phase last season.

Liverpool have found solace in the UCL this season, as they have to deal with less physicality and long balls, which have been their major issues. Against Forest, the Reds generated good chances but could not finish, and we see them correcting that this time, but they will also concede.
