Arne Slot, who was absent from the touchline tonight, made two changes to his Liverpool side that beat defending champions Manchester City on Sunday.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, on the other hand, made two alterations as their top scorer Alexander Isak missed out with a groin problem.

The in-form Liverpool took the lead in the 11th minute of the game when Luis Diaz cut back found Dominik Szoboszlai, who scored from 10 yards out.

Entering the second half, Newcastle looked like they could get an equaliser, but it was Liverpool who doubled their lead after a nice piece of play from Mohamed Salah landed on Alexis MacAllister's feet before he struck the ball into the net.

The win puts Liverpool in a firm position to win the EPL, with Arsenal now far behind the league leaders.
