Lagos FA Cup: Ikorodu City out-Smart City to lift first official title

Ikorodu City have achieved one of their goals this season after emerging as Lagos State FA Cup champions. 

Ikorodu defeated Smart City 2-0 in the FA Cup final held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Sunday evening. 

In a keenly contested final, the Oga Boys scored a goal in either half to overcome the City Boys who had a man sent off in added time. 

In what was an end-to-end encounter between the two Lagos-based teams, Smart City proved they could play but were unable to find a way behind a stubborn Ikorodu defense. 

Youngster Farouk was heavily involved in both goals as he forced the opener, an own goal before setting up Ayomide Cole for the second to seal the game. 

Ikorodu were off the mark early in the game and took the deal through an own goal, but the goal seemed to bring Smart City out of their shell as they grew more confidence after going behind. 

However, despite all their gallant efforts in the final, they were unable to find a way behind the Ikorodu defense which handled everything thrown at them en route to a clean sheet. 

After the game, Ikorodu captain Sabastine was named as the player of the tournament while his partner, Uche, was named as man of the match.
