Kishane Thompson and Tia Clayton blast to 60m easy wins in Jamaica's season opener
Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson and World Championship relay silver medallist Tia Clayton claimed top honors in the 60-meter dash events at the Puma JAAA Fuller-Anderson Development Meet held at GC Foster College on Saturday.
In the men's final, Thompson, delivered a powerful performance from lane five, clocking 6.52 seconds to narrowly edge out Odaine McPherson, who finished in 6.53. Bryan Levell, the World Championship 200m bronze medallist, secured third place with a time of 6.54 seconds.
In an earlier heat, World Indoor 60m bronze medallist Ackeem Blake finished a surprising third in 6.70 seconds. That race was won by Nishon Ebanks in 6.61, with his teammate Rohan Watson taking second in 6.63s.
The women's event saw Tia Clayton dominate from start to finish, setting a new personal best of 7.02 seconds. She significantly improved upon her previous best of 7.14s. Her clubmate, Jonielle Smith, also achieved a personal best, finishing second in 7.06 seconds.
Natasha Morrison, who had entered with the fastest qualifying time of 7.09, placed third in the final with 7.21. She was closely followed by Trinidad and Tobago’s Shaniqua Bascome, who ran a personal best of 7.22 for fourth place.
Theianna Lee Terrelonge, now with Uptimum after leaving Edwin Allen High School, won the 'B' final in 7.23 seconds, which ranked her as the sixth-fastest woman overall on the day.
