Defender Marc Cucurella recently voiced concerns about the club’s direction, but his comments have sparked a fierce backlash.

Cucurella’s criticism triggers backlash

Speaking while on international duty with the Spain national team, Cucurella questioned Chelsea’s transfer strategy, particularly the focus on signing young players.

He suggested that despite the club’s heavy investment, the squad still lacks the quality needed to compete at the highest level.

The Spaniard also raised doubts about decisions made by the club’s hierarchy, including managerial changes, reflecting growing unease within the dressing room.

While some fans may sympathise with his frustration, not everyone has welcomed his outspoken stance, especially former Blues defender Jason Cundy.

Cundy fires back with brutal response

Cundy did not hold back in his assessment, turning the spotlight back on Cucurella’s own performances. “I understand his frustration because we all feel it as well… but right now, you are part of the problem, Cucurella,” he said.

He went further, criticising not just Cucurella but the wider squad: “His performances have dropped. Caicedo's have dropped, Enzo's. Everyone's performances have dropped.”

The former Chelsea man questioned the timing and tone of the comments, especially given the club’s current struggles. “We are in a position now where the football club is in a real crucial period… and these comments are coming out from someone who I am seeing not putting in the levels.”

Cundy then delivered his most explosive verdict: “Who the hell does he think he is? He's a player. You are paid to play football. Keep your mouth shut, do your job.”

With pressure mounting on all fronts, the situation at Chelsea continues to grow increasingly volatile.
