Kamaru Usman is like iPhone 5: Khamzat Chimaev brands Nigerian Nightmare ahead of UFC 294

The unbeaten Khamzat Chimaev has used an analogy between iPhone software versions in order to describe himself as a newer version of his opponent, Kamaru Usman, ahead of his upcoming return to the Octagon at UFC 294 this weekend in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Since co-headlining UFC 279 in September of last year, Chimaev, the fourth-ranked welterweight contender, has been missing from the Octagon.

After a fight with longtime adversary and former division title contender Paulo Costa was postponed, Chimaev will make his middleweight division comeback this weekend against Usman.

He hopes to increase his perfect record to 13-0 and earn the biggest scalp of his Octagon career to far.

Chimaev, who has been associated for a while with a bout against Usman, the former top pound-for-pound fighter and the winner will face Sean Strickland, the middleweight champion, following UFC 294; Dana White, the CEO of the organization marked it as a title eliminator.

Speaking about the fight with Usman, the Chechen stated that he saw himself as a better and younger version of the former champion, hence a fight between the two was inevitable.

He said, “Yeah, of course, because since day one, when I get to the UFC, everyone spoke about Khamzat (versus) Usman, Khamzat (versus) Usman, our wrestling skills, our striking, all of these things, you know,”

“Usman is like a fighter like me. But, he’s old version, I’m new, you know. He’s like different – you know, like iPhones come out, he’s like iPhone 5, and I’m like the [iPhone] Pro. It’s different, so, yeah.”

Usman takes on Chimaev on Saturday, October 21, 2023 in the United Arab Emirates.
