The Nigerian national team left for Libya for the second leg of their Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifier but were faced with an unpredicted event.

The team had to forfeit the game after the Libyan authorities mistreated them and kept them at the airport for more than 15 hours without food and water.

The incident led to an investigation by CAF, with the governing body revealing their final verdict a few days ago.

Troost-Ekong has reflected on the difficulties the Nigerian squad endured while celebrating what he called a "just" verdict on social media.

Nigeria was given three points and three goals from the Matchday 4 match that was cancelled, which was supposed to take place in Benina on October 15.

The Super Eagles captain wrote on Twitter, “JUSTICE: CAF awards three points and three goals to Nigeria. Libya fined $50,000.”

He further elaborated, “Plane was diverted 300km from the scheduled airport even when the pilot told them he was low on fuel. One step closer to our target AFCON 2025.”

“CAF’s disciplinary board fined Libya $50,000 and awarded Nigeria three goals and three points from the aborted fixture.”

Nigeria now leads their group with 10 points after four games after CAF’s decision was made.

The Super Eagles are almost certain to qualify for Morocco with only one more point from their next two games.
