‘It wasn’t feasible’ - Napoli director reveals why Osimhen ended up going on loan to Galatasaray
One of the main topics of conversation during the summer transfer window of 2024 was Osimhen's possible exit saga.
The Super Eagles striker failed to make a transfer move to one of the top clubs in Europe despite several offers from the likes of Chelsea, PSG and Al Ahli.
However, he ended up leaving Napoli on a loan deal to Turkish side Galatasaray a few days after the transfer window closed.
Manna on Osimhen’s transfer
Manna said that while Napoli had at first opposed the notion of a loan move, the timing of Turkey's prolonged transfer window presented a chance that ultimately benefitted both sides.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Manna said, “It was an opportunity. The market was closed in Europe, and Galatasaray approached us as soon as our summer session ended.
“At first, we were hesitant, as similar proposals had surfaced throughout the window, but neither we nor Victor were keen on a loan.
“However, after discussions with the player, we found common ground, and the solution became satisfying for everyone. Of course, we would have preferred a sale, but it wasn’t feasible.”
The Super Eagles player has quickly adjusted to life in Istanbul since moving there, making an impression at RAMS Park on his Galatasaray debut against Rizespor.
The 2023 AFCON winner will be looking to play a part in Galatasaray’s next game against Fenerbahce on Saturday.
