Israel Adesanya: Davido's good luck backfires as Strickland dethrones Izzy at UFC 293

New Zealand mixed martial artist of Nigerian descent Israel Adesanya lost to American Sean Strickland in the main event of Ultimate Fighting Championship 293 early on Sunday, September 10, 2023.

Adesanya returned to the Octagon after reclaiming the UFC title from Alex Pereira earlier this year.

The American defeated Israel Adesanya by unanimous decision to become the new middleweight world champion.

During the opening round, Strickland attracted Adesanya's attention with a left-right combination that broke his defense and knocked him down.

Strickland destroyed Adesanya in the first round and never looked back with relentless pressure and steady upright boxing.

At the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, all judges gave the contest a 49-46 score in favor of Strickland.

American-born Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer David Adedeji Adeleke who is professionally known as Davido, is trending on social media.

Davido gave a massive shoot out to Adesanya ahead of his fight against Strickland in Australia.

The Afrobeats star said, "I wanna give a big special, good luck.

"I know he might not need it because he gonna win. I wanna give a good luck to my brother.

"Izzy is like this on your pride. You know what I'm saying? We rooting for you.

"I need you to beat that. You know what I'm saying? I love you.

Davido's good luck message to Adesanya did not matter as Strickland produced a dominant performance to claim the UFC Middleweight title.
