'I will go to the Mosque to Pray' - Eric Chelle reveals plan for Nigeria vs Morocco AFCON semi-final
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has revealed that he would visit the mosque if the AFCON 2025 semi-final against the host nation, Morocco, entered penalty shootouts.
Heading into the semi-final, the three-time African champions have won all five of their matches. Their campaign started with a 2-1 victory over Tanzania, followed by a thrilling 3-2 win against Tunisia.
A rotated lineup then secured a 3-1 victory over Uganda, followed by a commanding 4-0 demolition of Mozambique in the round of 16.
Nigeria's credentials were solidified in the quarter-finals with a decisive 2-0 win over Algeria, one of the pre-tournament favourites.
Chelle's team has scored 14 goals and conceded only four. Osimhen and Lookman have led the attack superbly, supported by Alex Iwobi and Akor Adams.
The semi-final between Nigeria and Morocco is scheduled for Wednesday, with a spot in the AFCON final on the line.
What Chelle said
Speaking at the pre-match press conference in Rabat, Chelle was asked about Nigeria’s preparations for a possible penalty shootout ahead of Wednesday’s clash at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium.
With a smile, the Franco-Malian tactician replied, “I will go to the mosque to pray to win if we get to a penalty shootout.”
