Eric Chelle’s team took a two-goal lead in the second half from Troost Ekong and Akor Adams and were cruising to a comfortable victory.

However, Nwabali’s moment of madness led to Lesotho getting a goal back and almost cost the Super Eagles their two-goal lead late in the game.

"That was bad communication from Nwabali. And it happened again; imagine if that ball went in," he said.

"The ball was going on slowly and I was screaming 'no'. Thank God that they didn't equalise."

Stanley Nwabali has been Nigeria's number one since AFCON 2023.

Nwabali has come under criticism from Nigerians and former players, asking that he be dropped from the team.

Despite the appeal from fans, former Super Eagles player Sam Elijah has asked Chelle not to drop the goalkeeper for the game against Benin Republic.
