'I was close to joining the Saudi League' - Salah reveals how he almost left Liverpool

Salah has been Liverpool's best player this season, having led the Reds to their 20th Premier League title.

The winger was named the Premier League Player of the Season after his impressive campaign that saw him clinch the league's highest goalscorer.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah admitted he was close to a move to Saudi Arabia before deciding to renew with the Reds.

Negotiations with the Merseyside club were lengthy, and both parties finally reached an agreement late in the season, keeping the Egyptian at Anfield for two more years.

"I thought this was a good opportunity for me. I was actually close to going to the Saudi league if I hadn't signed a new contract with Liverpool.

"My relationship with the people in Saudi Arabia is very good, we talked a lot, and the negotiations were serious," he revealed, as reported by Abola.

"The negotiations with Liverpool were long. I know the club's policy, but we reached an agreement and we're all happy. Part of the pressure on the club came from the fans. I knew from the beginning that they wanted me to stay, and they played an important role," he noted.

Salah, who scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists in the Premier League, was named Player of the Year.
