I feel embarrassed - Pep Guardiola apologises after heated cameraman confrontation in Man City’s loss to Newcastle
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted he felt “ashamed” after clashing with a cameraman during a tense finale to his side’s 2–1 defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday evening.
The Premier League champions were left angered by several controversial decisions at St James’ Park, and emotions boiled over at the final whistle.
Guardiola was seen marching toward match officials before turning his frustration toward a broadcast cameraman, briefly removing the individual’s headphones and speaking directly into his ear.
Footage of the moment circulated widely, prompting questions about the manager’s conduct.
What Pep said
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Guardiola held his hands up.
“I apologised. I feel embarrassed, ashamed when I see it. I don’t like it. I apologised after one second to the cameraman. I am who I am,” he said

Guardiola declined to repeat what he said during the exchange but made it clear the emotion stemmed from his desire to protect the club.
“After 1,000 games, I’m not a perfect person. I make huge mistakes. The reason is I want to defend my team and my club,” he added.
The chaotic scenes extended beyond the touchline. City’s goalkeeper had to be ushered into the tunnel as tempers flared, while Newcastle midfielder Joelinton was held back by manager Eddie Howe. Guardiola himself engaged in an animated exchange with Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes.
Asked about the discussion, Guardiola played down any tension.
“We have known Bruno for many, many years. Every time after the game we talk. Our paths always cross, and I always have a good relationship with him. I don’t know what happened.”
