Chelsea have received good news on the injury front ahead of their crucial Premier League clash against Aston Villa.

Liam Delap has returned to first-team training, potentially making him available for the upcoming match against Aston Villa.

The Blues are currently navigating their longest break of the festive period before facing Unai Emery's high-flying Villa side. Enzo Maresca's team will be looking to build on the momentum from their second-half comeback against Newcastle United in their last outing.

Liam Delap outshone Victor Eletu as Chelsea destroyed AC Milan 4-1 in a preseason friendly.

A relentless schedule has contributed to a growing injury list at Stamford Bridge, although the recent return of Cole Palmer has provided some relief. Delap, a summer signing, has been sidelined for most of the season after suffering a hamstring injury in August, which was compounded by a shoulder issue earlier this month.

Initial concerns suggested a lengthy spell on the sidelines for the English forward.

However, Delap allayed those fears by posting pictures on his Instagram story showing him back in training, hinting at a possible return to the matchday squad as soon as the December 27 fixture.

His return may temporarily halt Chelsea's reported search for a new striker in the January transfer window. The club has already secured the future arrival of Emanuel Emegha next summer, but another high-profile signing is never off the table.

In Delap's absence, Joao Pedro has been deployed as the central striker, though many believe he is more effective in a number 10 role. With Cole Palmer's form likely to keep that position occupied, Pedro and a newly-fit Delap could soon be competing for a single spot in the starting lineup.
