‘He's not selfish’ - Ex-Super Eagles star Ighalo praises Osimhen for his all-around contributions
Osimhen has been a key figure for the Super Eagles, demonstrating his importance beyond just scoring in games.
At the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the Napoli striker has found the net four times and provided two assists, showcasing his dual threat in attack.
His six goal contributions are second only to teammate Ademola Lookman, who has been involved in seven goals for Nigeria during the tournament.
Ighalo hails Osimhen
Speaking on SuperSport, Ighalo acknowledged that while Osimhen sometimes misses significant opportunities, his overall impact on the game is undeniable. He praised the striker's work ethic and ability to create chances for others.
"He's a striker every team needs... because he's not selfish," Ighalo stated. "He works hard for the team, he provides, he scores goals, and he runs at defenders. I am happy with what I saw today."
Ighalo also commented on a recent performance, noting Osimhen's crucial role despite some missed chances.
"He missed a couple of big chances. He should have had, like, three goals today, but he did so well," he explained. "He got one goal and the assist for Lookman."
With his latest goal against Algeria, Osimhen's international tally has risen to 35, placing him just two goals behind Rashidi Yekini's all-time record for Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Osimhen leads four Nigerians as the Super Eagles dominate the Best XI for the AFCON quarterfinals.
