The 24-year-old forward, who was once close to a summer move to AC Milan before the deal collapsed, arrived at Bremen with high expectations following his impressive spells at Bayer Leverkusen and Royale Union SG.

However, he has been restricted to cameo appearances in his first three outings for the club.

What Steffen said

Speaking to Kicker, Steffen admitted Boniface’s quality is unquestionable but maintained that the player is still short of his best form.

“You can already see that he is getting better and better into his stride,” he said.

“He scored a goal against Bayern Munich, but it was unfortunately offside. But he'll keep on trying. It’s clear: we need him and have to get him into the shape to be at his best. In my opinion, he’s just not there yet. Accordingly, we’re continuing to work on it. We’re very happy with it – and he knows it," he added.

Despite not starting a match yet, Boniface’s minutes have steadily increased. He played 16 minutes in his debut, followed by two 30-minute appearances in subsequent games.

Steffen believes this gradual integration will help the striker rediscover his sharpness.

Interestingly, reports suggest his reduced minutes could also be linked to a possible contract clause tied to playing time.

With Bremen keen to maximise his attacking qualities, Boniface could soon be handed his first Bundesliga start for the club. His manager remains optimistic that the Super Eagles forward will soon return to the form that once made him one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting strikers.
