He deserves it - Bayern Munich boss says Jamal Musiala fit to inherit Arjen Robben's #10 jersey
Bayern Munich’s prodigious star Jamal Musiala has officially inherited the club’s iconic No.10 jersey, a number once worn by Dutch legend Arjen Robben, and the club’s hierarchy believes there’s no better player for the honour.
At just 21, Musiala has already established himself as a central figure in the Bundesliga giants’ attack. His flair, creativity, and maturity beyond his years have won over fans and coaches alike. The shift from jersey number 42 to 10 is not just a numerical change.
Taking on the No.10 shirt at Bayern is no small matter. It’s a jersey steeped in history, once draped on the shoulders of greats like Robben and Lothar Matthäus.
What Dreesen said
Speaking to Sky Germany, Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen made it clear that the decision reflects the club’s unwavering belief in Musiala's future as a cornerstone of their success.
“The number 10 has seen big names with us before. We extended Jamal’s contract as one of the most important players for the future. We naturally expect and hope for a great career from him with us, and for many big games and titles. In that respect, I think it’s right that he got the number 10,” Dreesen said.
While Bayern are celebrating Musiala’s rise, they’re also scanning the market for reinforcements, especially on the wings. Real Madrid’s Rodrygo is reportedly a target, though any move for the Brazilian would require a substantial bid, particularly with PSG, Arsenal, and Liverpool all showing interest.
