Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy has offered an intimate look into his life in football with the release of his new autobiography, "Benni."

The book charts his path from the challenging environment of South Africa's Cape Flats to the highest echelons of the sport, and now to his current role leading the Kenyan national team.

Benni McCarthy remains the all-time leading goalscorer for Bafana Bafana and is the only South African to have won the UEFA Champions League.

He also belongs to an elite group of African players who have scored in both the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup.

The autobiography delves into Benni McCarthy's formative years, where growing up amidst gang violence instilled in him a fierce resilience and an uncompromising mindset.

As a teenager, he left his home country to pursue a professional career in Europe, playing for prominent clubs in the Netherlands, Spain, and England.

The former Manchester United attacking coach expressed excitement about the biography, shedding more light about what it entails.

“Hey everyone, Benni McCarthy here. Hope you're good. Time has come. Finally, I got my new book out. Benni, From Gangland to Greatness. Not sure where the greatness comes from, but anyway. That's what it's called,” Benni McCarthy said in a video shared on his Instagram.

“So, I sat down with Mark Gleeson over the last few years and wrote down all my memories, everything about that's in this book. Really excited. I'm excited. So, let's get started. If you can, get a copy of it. It's a great read.

“You can take a lot of good from it, you know, and apply it to your own life. So I really think it's worth the read. So you'll also be able to find the link in my story.

His club career peaked at FC Porto, where he was a pivotal member of Mourinho's historic Champions League-winning team in the 2003/04 season.

On the international front, Benni McCarthy consistently proved himself in high-stakes matches. He was the top scorer at the 1998 AFCON in Burkina Faso and made his mark at the 1998 and 2002 FIFA World Cups.
