According to a report by CBS Sports on July 5, Giannis Antetokounmpo underwent cleanup surgery on his knee but has yet to receive the go-ahead from the Milwaukee Bucks to compete for the Greek national team in the FIBA World Cup.

However, despite not knowing if he would participate or not, the Greek basketball squad did include the former NBA MVP.

The top-seeded Bucks lost to the Miami Heat in the first round of the playoffs because Giannis Antetokounmpo's back injury occurred during the first round.

Thanasis, his brother, is a Milwaukee Bucks player who also competes in the NBA and will represent his country.
