Amorim's tenure with the Red Devils has concluded abruptly, following public criticism he levelled against the club's leadership.
His dismissal was triggered by controversial post-match comments that suggested a major rift with the board, emphasising his role as a manager rather than a head coach.
With the news of his sacking releases officially on the club website, Darren Fletcher replaced the Portuguese manager as the interim coach.
Amorim sacked
Following the sacking of Amorim, fans have taken to social media, asking the club to get Maresca to Old Trafford.
The club announced that Fletcher has been appointed as interim manager until the end of the season.
However, the news did not go well with some Man United fans, who want Amorim’s replacement to be the ex-Chelsea boss.
One fan said, as reported by Sky Sports, "Get Maresca in for the rest of the season!" "You're living in cuckoo land!"
Another fan responded, “Could be a bold move, might shake things up mid-season.”
A fan wrote, “It’s a gamble, but sometimes that’s what you need at Old Trafford.”
One Man United fan wrote, “Maresca's fresh approach could bring something new. Worth considering if things don't improve.”
As it stands, Fletcher is the man in charge and his first match will be the upcoming Premier League fixture against Burnley on Wednesday night.
