From blazing the track to motor racing, Usain Bolt reveals plans to become Formula E team investor
Olympic legend Usain Bolt has revealed he is in discussions to become an investor in a Formula E team, expressing a strong desire to get involved with the all-electric racing series.
Speaking exclusively to RacingNews365 at a special event in Miami ahead of the city's E-Prix, the multiple world-record holder confirmed his interest in joining the growing list of high-profile figures investing in motorsport.
The event, hosted by Formula E title partner ABB, saw the Jamaican sprinting legend light up the Miami Tower from the cockpit of a Formula E car. Bolt is already familiar with the championship, having driven one of its cars in Mexico City two years ago, and is a vocal supporter of its focus on sustainability and clean energy.
"I’ve tried to follow it as much as I possibly can," Bolt told RacingNews365. "It’s really growing, and that’s something that is always great because, again, it’s big on the environment, and it’s great for clean energy. So that’s something that I’m happy to see growing and getting bigger."
In recent years, motorsport has attracted significant investment from celebrities and athletes. Actor Idris Elba recently became a strategic investor in the Cupra Kiro team in February 2025, highlighting a trend Bolt is keen to join.
While he did not specify which team he is considering, Bolt confirmed that talks have taken place within his inner circle to make the investment a reality.
"That’s something that we’ve discussed," he revealed when asked about becoming a team investor. "There have been talks; it’s just about getting the right team and the right people together to really get it off the ground."
The eighth-time Olympic gold medallist emphasized that the decision hinges on finding the right fit and ensuring all elements align for a successful partnership.
"My team and I will definitely talk about it," Bolt added. "And as I said, it’s always a great initiative to get into something that’s really grown and is going in the right direction."
When pressed on whether this was an active pursuit, he reiterated his commitment, stating, "Yeah, that’s something that we’ve discussed. And it’s just about getting everything together, getting it on the right track, and seeing if it will be the right move."
