Finidi’s fortress! Ex-Super Eagles boss makes it four straight clean sheets after CAFCL draw
Former Super Eagles boss Finidi George is building a defensive powerhouse in Nigeria, as his Rivers United side secured their fourth consecutive clean sheet across competitions.
Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that the latest for the Pride of Rivers follows a hard-fought goalless draw against Congolese club FC Les Aigles du Congo in the CAF Champions League preliminary round on Saturday.
The draw in Kinshasa marks a significant result for Rivers United, who are one of two Nigerian representatives in the opening round of the 2025/26 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
Despite facing immense pressure and being pinned back in their own half for large portions of the match at the Stade des Martyrs, the "Pride of Nigeria" as the club called themselves on social media held firm, showing a disciplined and resilient defensive performance.
The clean sheet extends an impressive streak for Finidi's men, who haven't conceded a goal in their last four competitive matches.
The last team to breach their defense was fellow CAF Champions League campaigners and NPFL champions, Remo Stars, who held the Rivers side to a 1-1 draw in their 2025/26 NPFL opener.

This defensive solidity will be crucial as Rivers United now prepare for the second leg against the wounded Les.
The return fixture is set for Sunday, September 28, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
With a place in the next round at stake, Rivers United will look to capitalise on their home advantage and secure a spot in the Second Preliminary Round, taking another step toward the coveted and lucrative CAF Champions League group stages.
