Ese Brume soars to world-leading mark at Botswana Golden Grand Prix

Commonwealth champion Ese Brume officially kicked off her outdoor season on a winning note, with a world-leading distance of 6.77m, to win the women's long jump event at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix.

Brume saved her best jump for the last with her final round jump, defeating Burkina Faso's Marthe Koala, who had led until that moment with 6.69m in the third round.

With an opening round distance of 6.65m, Brume was in the lead until Koala's 6.69m. She had failed attempts in her following jumps but knowing the winning prize was slipping away from her, the world championships silver medallist gave it all in the last round, which was not just good enough for the win and rises to the top of the world list ahead of India's Shaili Singh's 6.76m.

Brume has competed twice this year, first kicking off her season at the Texas Relays as part of a 4x100m relay team of Annie Tagoe, Nigerian international Haisha Bisiolu, and British international and fellow jumper Lorraine Ugen, finishing seventh in their heat in 42.07s.

Six days later, she raced in the 400m at the Cameron Burrell Alumni Invitational, Texas, stopping the clock at 57.31s for a fourth-place finish in her heat.

With her winning jump in Botswana, the long jump multiple medallist is in good shape as she fine-tunes her preparations for the World Championships in Budapest.
