Dutch GP: 'Disappointed' Lando Norris breaks silence after losing pole to Piastri
Lando Norris has admitted he was disappointed to miss out on pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix.
The McLaren driver finished just twelve-thousandths of a second behind his teammate, Oscar Piastri, despite topping all three free practice sessions.
What Norris said
"It's a very small margin, it's been like that all weekend, and it could have easily been me on top," Norris told Sky Sports F1.
"I'm a little disappointed not to be first, but it was close, and I put in some good laps, so it's not the end of the world."
"With the wind blowing like it was today, a lot of it comes down to luck, even my own. But it wasn't easy. My first lap in Q3 was good, but I had a headwind on the straight and lost about a tenth, so that's most likely where the difference came from."
"But my position is good. It's a great battle with Oscar; he's been driving well all weekend, and we've been fighting each other all season, so tomorrow should be fun."
"Last year, we both had a terrible start here. I don't think the inside line is much better into Turn 1, but it's a long race with many laps, and we'll see what the weather has in store for us."
McLaren's resurgence continues
This McLaren one-two is a testament to the monumental strides the team has made this season.
Norris and Piastri have gone from battling in the midfield to consistently challenging for podiums and poles.
However, this success also brings with it a new pressure.
As the title race heats up, the question for McLaren becomes how to manage the intense rivalry between two of the sport's brightest young stars.
Piastri's rise is undeniable, and Norris is now in the unfamiliar position of having a teammate who is not only keeping pace but occasionally outshining him.
The Dutch Grand Prix race will be a fascinating chapter in this unfolding saga, with the fate of McLaren’s championship hopes potentially resting on their two drivers.
The Dutch Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday, August 31, 2025.
The race starts at 2:00 PM W.A.T.
