Felix Baumgartner, the Austrian skydiver who gained fame as the first person to jump from the stratosphere, has died at the age of 56. He passed away on Thursday during a paragliding flight in Porto Sant'Elpidio, in the province of Fermo, Italy.

According to Italian media reports, Baumgartner felt unwell during the descent, lost control of the paraglider, and landed in a swimming pool at a tourist resort, injuring a woman.

The Austrian achieved global recognition on October 14, 2012, when he became the first person to jump from the stratosphere, at an altitude of 38,969 meters (approximately 128,000 feet). Reaching speeds of 1,357.6 km/h (843.6 mph), he broke the sound barrier during his descent.

Felix Baumgartner was on vacation in Italy. He died doing what he loved.
