The Leipzig midfielder has caught the eye of several European giants after having an impressive season with his current team.
Dani Olmo, an offensive midfielder for RB Leipzig who has been linked with a transfer to Real Madrid, reportedly told a German journalist Christian Falk that he would prefer to sign with FC Barcelona.
Before the summer transfer window opened, Olmo had become a potential target for Real Madrid. The former Barcelona academy star is in his final year with RB Leipzig, who are having trouble renewing his contract.
Olmo dreams of Spain return
It was reported that Olmo wants to return to Spain and his favourable destination was Real Madrid despite coming from Barcelona’s youth ranks.
Christian Falk is now asserting that Olmo would prefer a trade to the Premier League, where Manchester United is reportedly interested, although he would be open to joining Barcelona in the summer.
In Falk’s statement, he said, “Another Bundesliga midfielder hotly discussed in the Premier League is Dani Olmo. The Spaniard would like to join Barcelona but is not averse to a move to England.
“Manchester United are also among those interested whilst Leipzig are struggling to renew Olmo’s contract. The problem: Olmo wanted to have an immediate release clause for the summer of 2023 in the new contract.”
Olmo’s contract not positive
Falk also said that negotiations over a new deal for Olmo has hit a stumbling block after he requested a release clause be inserted in his new contract which would come into effect from this summer, but the club is reluctant.
The likelihood of his leaving is rising as he approaches the end of his contract, especially because talks to extend it have stalled.
Yet it's unclear whether Real Madrid will be willing to pursue Olmo in the summer given that the player still appears to favour a move to Barcelona and that teams like Manchester United and Tottenham are reportedly interested.
