Cristiano Ronaldo has officially been crowned the “Greatest of All Time” after receiving the prestigious award at the Liga Portugal Gala in Porto.
The 40-year-old legend was recognised for a career that has transcended statistics and inspired millions across the globe.
Ronaldo honoured at Liga Portugal gala
The Portuguese League hailed Ronaldo as an “unavoidable figure in the sport and idol to millions,” presenting him with the GOAT award to celebrate his unmatched legacy.
Although currently playing for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, the Real Madrid and Portugal icon accepted the honour via video message, thanking those who have shaped his journey.
“I’m grateful to all my teammates who have helped me throughout my career win this wonderful trophy. I also want to thank all the coaches and everyone who has helped me on this journey to become better and better,” Ronaldo said.
The organisers praised his work ethic, competitiveness, and relentless drive, noting that his influence extends far beyond goals and trophies. His journey from Sporting CP to Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and now Al Nassr has left an indelible mark on world football.
Ronaldo’s legacy and the GOAT debate
Ronaldo’s numbers remain staggering: 943 career goals, a record 141 international strikes in 223 games for Portugal, and a career packed with historic milestones.
While his time in the Portuguese Primera Liga was brief, with just three goals for Sporting CP, his impact across Europe and the world has been monumental.
Still, the GOAT debate continues, with many preferring Lionel Messi’s artistry. Yet, for Liga Portugal and countless fans, Ronaldo’s competitiveness, longevity, and ability to deliver on the grandest stages secure his crown.
At 40, Ronaldo’s fire still burns, and his new accolade cements him as one of the most influential athletes in history.
