Club World Cup: Chelsea gets ‘fake’ trophy as Trump keeps original
U.S. President Donald Trump claims he now possesses the original FIFA Club World Cup trophy, which Chelsea thought had won in the final.
Meanwhile, Chelsea lifted what appears to be a replica, leaving players confused and fans outraged.
What happened?
At MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 13, Chelsea defeated Paris Saint‑Germain 3–0 to win the expanded Club World Cup.
However, it emerged soon after that the trophy presented to the players was not the official one.
What Trump said
Trump revealed in an interview with DAZN that FIFA President Gianni Infantino gifted him the original trophyearlier in March during a White House event.
He said, “They said, ‘Could you hold this trophy for a little while?’ … ‘We’re never going to pick it up. You can have it forever in the Oval Office.’ And they actually made a new one.”
The official trophy, designed by Tiffany & Co., is a gold-plated masterpiece valued at around US$230,000, featuring rotating rings, global inscriptions, and braille embossing.
