Chukwueze to battle Barcelona star for LaLiga award

LaLiga Liga has released the list of nominees for player of the month for March, with Super Eagles and Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze making the list, although he will be competing with six others for the award.

Chukwueze, who is currently in the Super Eagles camp for the AFCON 2024 qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau, will be in competition for the award with Celta Vigo's Iago Aspas, Barcelona's Raphinha, Real Sociedad's David Silva, Atletico Madrid's Griezmann, Real Betis' Borga Iglesias, and Getafe's Enes Unal.  

Chukwueze was brilliant this month, helping Villarreal achieve an unbeaten run in the three games they played, which put them back in contention for the top four places.  

He assisted both goals in the victory against Almeria, and although he was kept relatively quiet against Betis, he was back in and among the goals against Osasuna.

Raphinha (Barcelona)

Barcelona have opened a 12-point lead at the top of LaLiga despite injuries to key players and Lewandowski's poor form, and they have Raphinha's match-winning goals to thank for it.  

Of the three games Barcelona played in March, Raphinha scored the only goal in two of them, which turned out to be match-winners against Athletic Club and Valencia.

David Silva (Real Sociedad)

David Silva was exceptional this month, and although La Reale's footing has been loose on the log, it was despite Silva's solid performances.

The 37-year-old grabbed two assists and maintained a pass completion rate of 85% in his 206 minutes played.  

Borja Iglesias (Real Betis)

Real Betis are not only three points away from the top four, and it is partly thanks to Iglesias. His two goals this month came in a crucial win against Osasuna and an even more pertinent point against direct rival Real Sociedad.

Iago Aspas (Celta Vigo)

Aspas was one of the top performers in LaLiga this month, scoring in two of Celta's three games this month.

Enes Unal (Getafe)

Enes Unal is one of the best strikers in LaLiga, and his performance this month is a further exhibition of this fact. 

No other player scored more than his five goals in the month of March.

Griezmann (Atletico Madrid)

Regarded by many as the best player in LaLiga, Griezmann was nearly unplayable this month.
