‘Change the system’ - Super Eagles legend calls for tactical shift to help Boniface's national team form
The Super Eagles striker has come under criticism from fans due to his poor performance for the national team.
The striker failed to impress during Nigeria’s games against Benin Republic and Rwanda in the AFCON qualifiers.
However, it is a different situation for Boniface when he is with Bayer Leverkusen, as he tends to perform better at the club level.
Sodje calls for tactical change
Efe Sodje has urged the national team coach to make some changes in his tactical approach to help accommodate Boniface.
Speaking to Brilla FM, Sodje said, “Boniface is a good player, but he is just inconsistent (with the national team).
“The question is, can they play him and Osimhen together? Or will they have to play one and leave the other?
“That’s where the issue is, and they have to change the system. So whoever we get as coach needs to observe the players closely, know how he (Boniface) plays and sometimes adapt to his game.”
Sodje, a former defender for Luton Town, has expressed his worries about Boniface's lack of consistency for his country.
The former Super Eagles star underlined how critical it is that the Super Eagles coach plays to each player's strengths—particularly Boniface's.
He urged the Super Eagles coaches to thoroughly examine Boniface's coaching style and modify the team's setup accordingly.
Boniface has only managed one goal and one assist in eight games for Nigeria, leaving fans worried about his form.
However, for his club, he has scored three goals in his first four league games, including the game-winning goal in an exhilarating 4-3 victory over Wolfsburg.
