The clash, which culminated in a 2-1 triumph for the Division Two side against the 2019 FKF Shield champions, unfolded at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma on Sunday, January 28.

The match narrative was as gripping as the gameplay itself. Bungoma Stars clinched an early advantage, with Tekkwo Derrick piercing the net in the 23rd minute, ensuring his team led at halftime.

Bandari's response came post-interval, with Nsibambi Derrick leveling the score in the 55th minute. However, Bungoma's Makoha Meshack delivered the decisive blow, securing victory and progression with a goal in the 63rd minute.

In a post-match revelation, coach Lichungu attributed the monumental win to meticulous preparation and a tactical masterclass.

"My team played their hearts out, having prepared for this match for a whole week. Our strong point was in how we managed the ball.

"When you play against an experienced side like Bandari, or any team in the top-tier, you have to deny them ball possession. If you allow them to get the ball, they will punish you," he articulated.

He further emphasized the disciplined execution of their game plan, stating, "Most of the time during that match, my boys maintained ball possession, and that is how we finished off our opponent."

The victory was not just a product of strategic gameplay but also of collective effort and team spirit

“We love to keep things simple as football is a team sport, and we look forward to preparing for the next opponent and getting good results to progress to the Round of 16,' he concluded.
