The 24-year-old opened the scoring from the spot at the American Express to put Brentford ahead just before the half-hour mark.

Pascal Gross equalised for Brighton four minutes after going behind before Brentford lost their main man, Mbeumo, who limped off the pitch after rolling his ankle in the 40th minute.

Brentford’s manager, Thomas, has now provided an update on the Cameroonian, stating that the talented player has picked up a ‘bad injury’ that will keep him out for weeks.

“It is bad,” Frank Thomas said, according to a statement on the club’s website.

“He ‘ll have a scan later, but we don’t know the exact number of weeks he will be out.”

“Bryan’s injury is a clear one - it’s bad luck. He got caught, pushed and rolled his ankle. It’s very frustrating, but I’m a positive guy and we’ll find a solution.”

The manager added that the Bees will know the extent of the injury in the coming days but confirmed Mbeumo will miss their next game against Sheffield United.

“He will definitely not play on Saturday (against United),” he added. “We will know more in the next couple of days.”

Mbeumo’s goal against the Seagulls was his seventh of the season, taking the winger’s goal contribution this season to 11 goals in 15 appearances.
