Bayanda Walaza Scorches Opponents as He Makes USSA History with Another Great Time
South Africa’s teen sensation Bayanda Walaza maintained his great form in 2025 when he ran yet another good time, this time at the University Sports South Africa (USSA) event in Pretoria on Thursday.
Making his first-ever USSA appearance at USSA, Walaza blazed through the 100m finish line in a time of 10.02 seconds to claim the title of Fastest Man at USSA 2025.
Kyle Zinn finished second in a Personal Best (PB) of 10.13 seconds while Bradley Nkoana clocked 10.17 seconds for third place.
It was yet another demonstration of the 19-year-old’s growth as he has recorded some of the fastest times this year in what is a warning to his experienced rivals ahead of the 2025 World Championships.
His time in Pretoria on Thursday was his the fourth fastest this year, after dipping under 10 seconds when he clocked 9.99 seconds in March, the world’s fastest time then, and he has also managed 10.00 seconds as well as 10.04 seconds.
The Olympics 4x100m relay silver medalist, who also won gold in both 100m and 200m at the 2024 World U20 Championships, is looking to make a great impression at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
