The 26-year-old forward had an impactful footballing year for club and country. He was the top scorer for a Nigerian side that reached the AFCON final earlier in the year, and his record-breaking performance helped Atalanta to their first-ever European title.

The former Everton striker made a significant advancement in his career last season for club and country.

Lookman made his Super Eagles debut in 2022, but he never managed to look his brilliant best, not only at the African Cup of Nations. He scored three goals for the Super Eagles—no player had more—in their run to a silver medal in the tournament.

In total, he scored 22 goals across the period in view (17 for Atalanta, 5 for Nigeria) and provided 11 assists. Lookman is the only African in the 30-man shortlist, which strengthens his claim for CAF player of the year.
