Bad luck dey follow us - Reactions continue to trail Team Nigeria's disastrous Olympics outing after Amusan's heartbreak
Nigerians are still reeling from the shock of their biggest medal hope, Tobi Amusan, failing to make it beyond the semifinals of the 110m hurdles at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Social media has been abuzz with the nation's widespread disappointment, as it looks increasingly likely that Nigeria will end the Games without a single medal won by its athletes.
Amusan, the reigning world champion and world record holder in the event, was widely tipped as one of the biggest medal contenders for her country.
However, the 27-year-old superstar's dreams were shattered when she could only finish third in her semifinal heat, clocking a time of 12.55 seconds.
This latest setback comes on the heels of the disqualification of Nigeria's 4x400m men's team in the semifinals on Friday, further compounding the nation's woes at the Paris Olympics.
Nigerians have taken to social media to express their heartbreak and frustration over their team's disastrous outing, with some suggesting that there is a "spiritual and fundamental" problem plaguing the country's sports efforts.
"Bad luck just dey follow this country. See men and women who worked hard to stand out but are constantly being limited by the evil bedevilling their country. Dismiss it all you want but something is spiritually and fundamentally wrong with Nigeria," one concerned fan wrote.
Another user lamented, "Why she no go crash out, everything about Nigeria is crashing," while others blamed the country's leadership, with one comment reading, "Tinubu era no collect any medal at all for us in Olympic."

The name "Nigeria" has even been described as "bad luck" by some frustrated supporters, as the nation's Olympic campaign continues to disappoint its passionate fan base.
With the Games drawing to a close, Nigerians have now lost all hopes that their athletes can somehow salvage some pride and end the Paris 2024 Olympics on a more positive note.
However, the heartbreak of Amusan's shock exit will undoubtedly linger for some time.
