Atletico Madrid make move for Bayer Leverkusen star to bolster their squad

The Spanish said are continuing their efforts to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

The latest player to catch Diego Simeone's eye is Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Atletico have already contacted the player's representatives to discuss a potential transfer.

The central defender wasn't considered a priority initially, but the departures of the versatile César Azpilicueta and Axel Witsel mean Simeone needs to fill a gap in his squad, which Hincapié could do.

However, indications from Leverkusen suggest they won't let Hincapié go cheaply.

Atlético will likely have to pay the full asking price of €50 million to secure the signing of the defender.
