Nigeria-eli​gible star Ashanti Akpan has penned an emotional statement following her permanent exit from Chelsea, sharing a heartfelt tribute to the club that has been her home since the age of seven.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who recently completed a high-profile move to Newcastle United, took to Instagram to process the emotional breakup with the London giants. 

Her departure marks the end of a 13-year association that saw her grow from a primary school dreamer into a professional athlete.

In a post filled with nostalgia and gratitude, Akpan reflected on the decade-plus she spent at the Cobham training ground, where she won multiple youth trophies and eventually earned her senior debut.

“After 13 years, it’s time to say goodbye to my childhood club @chelseafcw,” Akpan wrote on Instagram. “This club has been a massive part of my life and has shaped so much of who I am today. It’s given me memories, experiences, and opportunities that I’ll forever be grateful for.”

Akpan’s exit is a significant moment for the Chelsea academy, as she was long considered one of their brightest homegrown prospects. She made sure to acknowledge the community that supported her rise:
