Wanjala, who is one of the brightest youngsters in Kenya, has been on the radar of the Spanish Segunda División side since last September and now, according to multiple reports, a deal is imminent.

As per sources close to his representative David Kenga, the deal could be confirmed this weekend or early next week after Almeria were impressed with the talented defender, having watched him extensively first at the Nastic Academy and now at Athletic Club Torrellano CF, both in Spain.

Wanjala came close to joining another Spanish side Elche last year, having trained with the club, but a deal did not materialise. However, Almeria would have sealed a transfer much earlier but the deal fell through when the player did not get the necessary documents on time.

“Amos trained with Elche for a month, but we couldn’t finalise the contract terms,” Kenga told Citizen Digital last September.

“Now, UD Almería have shown strong interest. They were ready to complete the deal just before the last transfer window closed, but a delay in processing his work permit in Spain halted the move. We’re now reapplying and confident he’ll join them in January 2026.”

Wanjala is among Kenyan youngsters who joined the Nastic Academy in 2023 after shining at that year’s National Secondary School Games, the other ones being Aldrine Kibet and Alvin Kasavuli.

Kibet has since signed for La Liga club Celta Vigo while Kasavuli remains at the Tarragona-based academy.

The three were part of the Kenya U20 team at the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, where they exited at the group stage, with Wanjala captaining the side.

Almeria are third in the Spanish second division with 36 points from 21 matches, just two behind leaders Racing, and are pushing for direct promotion back to La Liga where they last played in 2024.
