Algeria 2 - Nigeria 1: Super Eagles Player Ratings

The Super Eagles of Nigeria faced the Desert Foxes of Algeria on Tuesday, September 27 for the second time in five days.

Just like as against the home-based Algerians on Friday, the Nigerian national team conceded two goals through a penalty and a goalkeeper error again but this time scored only once to lose 2-1.

With Jose Peseiro's tenure now firmly in the deficit in terms of victories over losses, many of the Super Eagles players did not cover themselves in glory.

These are the player ratings from Nigeria vs. Algeria international friendly on Tuesday night.

Francis Uzoho - 5.0

The Super Eagles goalkeeping conundrum continues as Uzoho failed to grasp another opportunity to put himself in an unassailable position.

Despite some good saves, the Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper was at fault for Algeria's second goal, a replica of the one he conceded against Ghana in March this year.

Ola Aina - 6.0

The Torino fullback produced a dependable defensive performance and a promising attacking outlet. Nothing out of the ordinary, but got the job done fairly well.

Calvin Bassey - 6.5

Bassey is beginning to come into his own at the heart of the Super Eagles defence, which can only be good news.

The Ajax star was the more dominant of the centre-back pairing, as well as being vocal and commanding in his territory.

Kevin Akpoguma - 6.0

The Hoffenheim defender has shown he can be an option going forward with the waning abilities of Leon Balogun and William Troost-Ekong set to continue.

The 27-year-old could be the perfect ying to Bassey's yang as Jose Peseiro might have a promising central defence pairing for the next few years.

Zaidu Sanusi - 5.5

The occasional flashes of attacking moves that failed to amount to much coupled with an academic defensive performance are all to look forward to in Sanusi's game.

The Porto left-back gave more of the same against the Algerians while failing to track a couple of runs down his flank.

Frank Onyeka - 4.5

Onyeka started only his second game since March tonight and his lack of regular action at Brentford showed.

The defensive midfielder committed a needless tackle, much less in the penalty box in the 40th minute. Riyad Mahrez converted the penalty and the Super Eagles simply never came back from that equaliser.

Alex Iwobi - 7.0

It is the Alex Iwobi year and no one can begrudge him of that. The Everton star continues to shine even when it seems everyone else around him is floundering, both for club and country.

The 26-year-old produced an energetic performance as always. Marshalling the midfield, linking with the attack, and chipping in in defence when needed. Solid performance.

Ademola Lookman - 5.5

Lookman's most obvious contribution to the game was a goal ruled out for offside in the first half.

Other than that, the Atalanta forward failed to affect the proceedings positively and missed a couple of chances that seemed easier to score or find a teammate.

Moses Simon - 6.0

The Nantes winger produced another pacy, skilful performance as we have come to expect of him. He was unlucky to not be found for some of his runs.

Kelechi Iheanacho - 5.5

Iheanacho was mostly absent and ineffectual in the first half. The Leicester City forward played in more of a midfield role but failed to get on the ball as much as he should have.

Terem Moffi - 6.5

The Lorient striker justified his starting berth with a smart goal in the 9th minute. His awareness and quick thinking helped him take advantage of slack defending from the Algerians. A tight offside call in setting up Lookman robbed him of an assist.
