Alexis Sanchez recalls iconic El Clásico chip Goal for Barcelona ahead of Sevilla vs Real Madrid
As Sevilla prepares for an important clash against Real Madrid, former Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez has taken a nostalgic look back at one of the defining moments of his career, his unforgettable goal against Los Blancos in El Clásico during the 2013–14 season.
The Chilean forward, who represented FC Barcelona from 2011 to 2014, was a regular presence in Spanish football’s biggest fixture and scored three goals against Real Madrid during his time at the Camp Nou.
That moment came in October 2013, with a sold-out Camp Nou watching on.
In a tense match, Sanchez spotted Real Madrid goalkeeper Diego Lopez slightly off his line and produced an audacious, perfectly weighted chip to decide the game.
The goal quickly became one of the most replayed highlights of that era.
What Sanchez said
Speaking recently to ESPN, via SPORT, Sanchez revealed that even his own teammates were left in disbelief, most notably Lionel Messi.
He said, “I saw Neymar had the ball, so I made a diagonal run. Then I noticed the goalkeeper was a little off his line… bang.”
He added, “I scored the goal, and we were celebrating with Ney and Leo. He [Messi] asked me, ‘Did you mean to hit it like that?’ I said, ‘Yes, of course!’ They didn’t believe I had hit it like that. I wanted to chip it. It was a beautiful goal that went down in history.”
