Africa won - Israel Adesanya legitimises Dricus du Plessis at UFC 305

Israel "Izzy" Adesanya has spoken out about his defeat to the current UFC Middleweight Champion Dricus du Plessis, following months of vicious taunts.

Even though he accepted his loss, he insisted that "Africa" should have won.

While Dricus was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa, Izzy was born and raised in Nigeria and currently resides in New Zealand.

Izzy with his neck choked tapped out in submission to lose the bout in the fourth round.

On Saturday, August 17, Izzy sent out his first Twitter following his defeat at UFC 305 in Perth, Australia. In it, he wished Dricus du Plessis well.

He said, “I’m happy I got to fight again. I appreciate all the energy you gave me. Congrats @dricusduplessis.

"Thank you for your honest words and speaking your truth. No matter what, Africa won tonight!

“DDP, you have the torch…light the fire and inspire!”

Even though they had previously disagreed about who the "true African champion" was, Izzy was kind in his compliments to Dricus.

In an interview following the game, he declared, Dricus is an African champion and he will serve as an inspiration to African fighters in the future.

Many people complimented the Nigerian-born celebrity in the comments section for his maturity, modesty, and respect even in loss.
