AFCON 2025: “This will be a celebration for Africa” — Senegal boss declares ahead of Morocco clash
Despite the intimidating home support for the Atlas Lions in Rabat, Thiaw insists his squad is prepared for the magnitude of the occasion.
Senegal boss Thiaw excited for Morocco final
“It will be a celebration for Africa and a great final. Morocco is here because of their hard work, and they deserve recognition,” Thiaw stated during his pre-match briefing.
“But tomorrow, they will be facing Lions who are hungry to add a second title to their history.
"Morocco are the favourites. They are first in the FIFA rankings... But the best team remains Egypt with its seven titles. It’s a dream final for everyone.”
Thiaw, who will be desperate to replicate the success of the 2021 winning campaign, emphasised that fine margins and mental fortitude would decide the tactical battle.
“To manage a final, you have to be ready on all fronts. It will be a difficult contest against a great Moroccan team. I congratulate them on their recent performances... We will stick to our principles, and we are ready and determined.”
The match marks a historic milestone as the 32nd meeting between the two giants, but incredibly, it is their first-ever clash in an AFCON tournament.
While Morocco holds the historical edge with 18 wins, Senegal are the most experienced tournament side of the last decade, appearing in their fourth continental final overall.
