AFCON 2025: Hannibal Mejbri says Tunisia’s opening win boosts confidence ahead of Nigeria clash
Tunisian midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has expressed confidence that his side’s emphatic opening-day victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has set the tone for a strong campaign, particularly ahead of their high-profile clash against Nigeria.
The Carthage Eagles began their AFCON 2025 journey in convincing fashion on Tuesday, recording a 3-1 win over Uganda in their Group C opener.
The result not only handed Tunisia maximum points but also placed them at the top of the group on goal difference.
What Hannibal said
Speaking after the match, Hannibal underlined the importance of starting the tournament on a positive note.
He said, “It was important for us to start with a victory. Obviously, it gives us momentum going into the next games.”
The highly anticipated clash between Tunisia and Nigeria will take place at the Complexe Sportif de Fès.
For Hannibal and his teammates, the confidence gained from the Uganda win could prove decisive against a Super Eagles side renowned for its attacking quality and big-game mentality.
Meanwhile, the group’s other fixture will see Uganda and Tanzania face off in a regional duel, with both teams desperate to revive their qualification hopes after suffering defeats on the opening day.
