The Indomitable Lions have once again found a way to navigate the chaos that often surrounds their AFCON campaigns, while the Atlas Lions arrive carrying the weight of expectation after a dominant run that has marked them out as one of the tournament favourites.

Cameroon vs Morocco preview

Cameroon’s route to the quarter-finals has been anything but smooth, yet the Indomitable Lions continue to thrive when the pressure is on.

A narrow 2-1 success over South Africa in the Round of 16 extended a trend that has defined their tournament so far, with all three of their victories coming by a single-goal margin.

While that ability to edge tight contests speaks volumes about their mentality, performances have not always convinced.

With memories of past AFCON triumphs still fresh, including lifting the trophy on Moroccan soil back in 1988, Cameroon will need to raise their level if they are to go beyond the quarter-final stage for the first time since 2010.

Morocco, by contrast, have looked assured from the outset. Their 1-0 win over Tanzania sealed progression, but even that result left head coach Walid Regragui dissatisfied, underlining the high standards within the camp.

The Atlas Lions have been beaten just once since August, putting together an outstanding run that stretches back to their historic World Cup semi-final appearance in 2022.

Despite that momentum, AFCON has rarely been kind to Morocco in recent decades. Their sole continental title dates back to 1976, and they have fallen at the quarter-final hurdle in both 2017 and 2021.

Encouragingly, they remain defensively watertight at these finals, yet to concede a goal before half-time.

This will be the first time the sides meet at an AFCON finals since 1992, and Cameroon can draw confidence from winning two of the three tournament clashes before that (D1).

Cameroon vs Morocco team news

Cameroon head into this tie with a fully fit squad, giving their coaching staff plenty of options across the pitch.

Morocco are less fortunate, with Azzedine Ounahi ruled out through injury, a notable absence in midfield for the Atlas Lions.
