Having previously won the tournament in 1980 on home soil, the 1994 AFCON, held between March 26 and April 10 in Tunisia, was a defining moment for the Super Eagles.

The Super Eagles celebrated their historic milestone—31 years on social media.

The post reignited memories of a golden era in Nigerian football marking Nigeria’s second AFCON title and their first win on foreign soil.

Nigeria had faced a 14-year drought, with painful final losses in 1984, 1988, and 1990.

The 1994 squad led by the indomitable Rashidi Yekini—nicknamed with other players like Emmanuel Amunike and Yekini leading the charge against formidable opponents.

Nigeria faced stiff competition, including a dramatic semi-final clash against defending champions Ivory Coast, which they won on penalties.

In the final, the Super Eagles secured a 2-1 victory over Zambia, with Amunike scoring both goals to clinch the title.

The Super Eagles post on Thursday, April 10 said, "OTD in 94. 31 years ago, Legends were confirmed.

The Super Eagles won the AFCON again in 2013 and got to the final of the last edition.
