WEUROS > WAFCON? Super Falcons coach Madugu loses award to Three Lionesses counterpart
Despite leading the Super Falcons to a historic 10th WAFCON title, Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu was beaten to the Johan Cruyff Trophy for Best Women's Team Coach at the Ballon d'Or.
Madugu coached a remarkable comeback victory in the WAFCON final against Morocco, earning himself a nomination. However, his exploits were not enough to edge Weigmann, who also led the Three Lions to victory in the Women's Euros against Spain.
The Ballon d'Or gala was held tonight, Monday, September 22nd, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
The coach of the year, named after revolutionary Dutch coach Johan Cruyff, was one of the coveted trophies on the night, and Nigeria's coach Madugu, who was not in attendance, was one of the contenders.

The 62-year-old was nominated alongside Sarina Weigman (England), Sonia Bompastor (Chelsea), Arthur Elias (Brazil) and Renee Slegers (Arsenal).
Weigman won the award after leading England to a second consecutive European Championship title. The Women's Euros triumph was also the third in Weigman’s career, as she first won it with her home country, the Netherlands.
