Evra has seen improvements under Amorim despite Manchester United's dismal season

Patrice Evra has offered a surprising assessment of Ruben Amorim's tenure at Manchester United, suggesting the Portuguese manager has made "a lot of improvements" despite a disastrous season that sees the club languishing in 16th place in the Premier League.

Amorim, who joined from Sporting Lisbon in November, has failed to spark a turnaround in fortunes at Old Trafford.

The latest setback came in the form of a 17th league defeat against West Ham, leaving the Europa League as the only potential avenue for silverware and Champions League qualification.

Speaking to Sky Sports, former United defender Evra didn't shy away from labeling the current campaign a "disaster."

However, he offered a more nuanced perspective on Amorim's impact behind the scenes.

"It's been a disaster. It's not a great season," Evra admitted.

He continued, "I think Amorim knows that. I had a meeting with him and he's not happy, but I love his humility because you know, he admits things.

"I love his honesty. I said [when Evra met Amorim] 'welcome to your club' and he said 'no Patrice, I'm at your club'. I love his personality, but of course, the results have been really bad this season."

Despite the poor results, Evra believes foundational changes are being implemented.

"It's a process. In his first year, I see a lot of improvements. There is discipline. The player who doesn't want to run, who doesn't want to die for the badge, they won't play for Manchester United.

"He brought in a few players [Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven], but they need time to adapt. Even myself with Vidic when he arrived, we had six months to adapt, so next year won't be an excuse,” he added.

Amorim will be hoping to the end the season with Europa league victory when Manchester United face Tottenham in final.
