Arsene Wenger expressed his regret over missing out on signing Martin Odegaard during his teenage years.

The legendary manager reflected on the young prodigy, likening him to former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas in terms of vision and technical ability.

Despite Wenger's efforts, Odegaard opted to join Real Madrid, enticed by the opportunity to learn from his idol Zinedine Zidane.

Odegaard’s decision to join Real Madrid left Wenger frustrated, as he saw immense potential in the young Norwegian.

"We did fight like mad to get him. I got him in a training session and I remember Steve Morrow brought him into training with his father.

"You could see something special there but in the end he has chosen to go to Real Madrid,” Wenger recalled, as reported by the Metro.

Odegaard's initial move to Real Madrid didn't pan out as expected, as he struggled to secure regular first-team opportunities.

However, loan spells at various clubs, including Real Sociedad, paved the way for his eventual success at Arsenal.

Under the guidance of manager Mikel Arteta, Odegaard flourished, establishing himself as one of the Premier League's top creative midfielders.

His commitment to the club was solidified with a new long-term contract, signalling his desire to be part of Arsenal's journey to success.
