Newcastle's owners will not leave the Premier League club without a recognised striker if the prolonged transfer saga involving Alexander Isak ends with the Swede's departure, manager Eddie Howe stated ahead of Monday's clash with Liverpool.

A £110 million bid for Isak was reportedly received from Liverpool earlier this month, and the forward took to social media to accuse Newcastle of breaking promises.

The club responded by stating that no commitment had been made to sell the 25-year-old, whose current contract runs until 2028.

Following the departure of Callum Wilson, Isak's exit could leave the team with 22-year-old William Osula as their only striker.

"I don't think the club would ever let that situation happen. We certainly can't go through the season without a recognised striker," Howe said, as reported by Sportal.

"That's no disrespect to Will Osula. I think he's done very well and has come on a long way, but he's got limited Premier League experience, although I'm really pleased with his development.

But Alex would be the only other experienced striker that we have, so we can't be left in that position," the Newcastle manager added.
